Why I paint “lattices”?

lattice of the mind

I have been asked why I paint lines like this and why I often call them lattices. The reasons are that this is the way my hand moves naturally, and because a “lattice” for me references so many things : an underlying structure to reality (such as String Theory), a skeletal essence of the form of my subject matter, and a foreground to the background of a painting. So that is what a lattice network means to me, and why it recurs in so many of my pictures.
